"Cheatback" is a song by American singer Chlöe and rapper Future. It was released on March 31, 2023, as the fifth and final single and twelfth track from the debut studio album, In Pieces (2023). The official music video premiered the same day of her album release, directed by Audrey Ellis Fox. It features both Future and Joey Bada$$.[1]
Background
Chlöe first previewed the song on May 18, 2022, during an Instagram live along with tracks "Surprise" and "For the Night."
On February 17, 2023, Chlöe was asked on a Discord Stage if the song was on the album. She responded, "You'll have to see on that one." On February 21, she was asked for a track title hint on Twitter. She responded with a series of emojis that led fans to believe that the song would appear on the album.[2] On March 20, Chlöe officially revealed the album's track list, confirming that the song is on the album. On March 28, 2023, Bailey debuted the song through live performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which aired March 28, 2023.
She told Rolling Stone that it was her "favorite song for a while" and explained, "because we're human. We want people to feel the pain that they caused us. The pain that they caused us to make us feel like we're not good enough and where it's like, why didn't you love me enough? Why didn't you love me enough to stay with me and be faithful? You know what, my crying isn't doing anything. My begging and pleading isn't doing anything. Let me just cheat back and show you firsthand how it really feels. As petty and toxic as it is, it's real. And Future, I love him on it because he's telling the male perspective. And I'm telling the female perspective."[3]
Live performances
On April 7, 2023, she performed the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, her second return as a solo artist since promoting "Have Mercy" in 2021.[4]
